The Biomedical Imaging Group Rotterdam (BIGR) is an initiative of and collaboration between the Departments of Medical Informatics and Radiology of the Erasmus MC – University Medical Center Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Through innovative fundamental and applied research it aims at developing and validating advanced techniques for the processing and analysis of large, complex, and heterogeneous medical and biological image data sets. The main focus areas of BIGR are the development of quantitative imaging biomarkers for cardiovascular and neurodegenerative disease, cellular and molecular image analysis, and image guided interventions.

The focus of Thoraxcenter Biomedical Engineering is imaging of cardiovascular disorders. We concentrate on ultrasound imaging (physics, instrumentation, contrast agents and image processing) and biomechanics of heart and blood vessels. Image processing concerns 2D an 3D cardiac and vascular ultrasound image processing, including ultrasound image reconstruction, registration, segmentation, analysis and classification.
